As a prelude to our Book Study on indigenous people in America this autumn, our Pastoral Minister, Bob Gardner, would like to invite you - individuals, small groups as well as families - to attend the 2024 Meskwaki Powwow on Saturday, August 10, at the Powwow Grounds on the Meskwaki Settlement just west of Tama, Iowa.
St. Ludmila is not officially organizing this event, but we are encouraging interested parishioners and friends to connect and perhaps carpool to this amazing cultural celebration. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children (payable at the entrance).
The Powwow includes traditional Meskwaki dancing and singing as well as food and craft vendors and games. Seating on metal bleachers is provided or you may bring your own portable sports chair or lawn chair. This even is not handicap accessible.
We plan to depart from the St. Ludmila parking lot at 10:45 AM. The ceremonial parade and celebration begin at 1:00 PM. We will then depart the Powwow by 3"00 PM so we can return to St. Ludmila no later than 4:00 PM.
